This set of thumbnail links takes you both to work I've done for clients and to images I've restored just for technical exercise. It's also true that I'm drawn to uncover the details that can tell us a lot about the people who sat or stood for these photographs and tintypes, how they reacted to the new technology of ferrotypy and photography, and how they felt about the world and themselves.

And so, while I want to present examples of what I do in the hope that you'll find my expertise worthy of your own heirlooms, I also want to share with you all the interesting things I have found out about these people, whether they are my ancestors or whether they are complete unknowns.

For some background on ferrotypy (the art of making tintypes), check out photographer Will Dunniway's website at
http://www.collodion-artist.com
.
The art of ferrotypy is alive! Will explains how tintypes are made and gives lots of links to other practising ferrotypists.
